Eurowings

Eurowings, founded in 1993, is a German budget airline based in Düsseldorf, Germany. The carrier is a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, modelled on its partner Germanwings, on behalf of which it operated until October 2014. In 2015 the two companies merged and since then both have been operating under the Eurowings brand. The carrier flies to over 130 domestic and European destinations and serves several long-haul routes as well. The most popular cities include: Amsterdam, Budapest, Geneva, Paris, Prague, Stockholm, Vienna, Zurich.

Baggage

The Eurowings baggage policy gives passengers 3 options of free hand baggage allowance, depending on the fare they fly on. The maximum dimensions are 55 x 40 x 23 cm and 8kg weight, plus everyone is allowed to bring one additional small item, such as a laptop bag or a handbag of up to 40 x 30 x 10 cm. BASIC fare customers can take one carry-on, but on fully booked flights the carrier gives no guarantee that it will be transported in the cabin. The SMART fare comes with one piece of hand baggage as well, but it will always go in the cabin. The BEST / BIZclass fare has the generous baggage allowance, which is two items of baggage guaranteed in the cabin. Up to 10 liquids may be carried on board as long as they are in containers with a capacity of up to 100 ml or 100 g, placed in a transparent, resealable bag. BASIC fare customers can book one or two checked bags up to 23kg or one bag up to 32kg online at an additional charge. With SMART fare it is one free piece of checked baggage up to 23kg and the same additional options as the BASIC. BEST customers are allowed to check two bags up to 23kg, whereas business class travelles are entitled to as many as two 32kg items of registered baggage.

Booking classes

Eurowings airlines offer four travel fares: BASIC, SMART, BEST, and BIZclass to suit the needs of all passengers. The BASIC fare is the most affordable option addressed to those who travel light. The SMART passengers are guaranteed that their hand baggage will be with them during the flight, they can check one item of baggage up to 23kg and choose their preferred seat. Business class travellers can enjoy a wide range of services, including à la carte catering, two 32kg registered bags and two items of cabin baggage. They can also choose any seat on a plane, avail of priority check-in, priority boarding and security fast lane. Business class customers are allowed to enter the lounges at selected airports, too. Booking changes and cancellations can be made with the FLEX option. Long-haul passengers can use in-flight entertainment and WiFi at an additional cost. BEST fare is offered on long-haul routes only and includes complimentary catering, seats with more legroom and adjustable backrest.

Online Check-in

Passengers can check in online on the website or using the Eurowings mobile application by entering a six-digit booking code and their surname. The boarding pass can be printed off, sent via SMS or email, or saved onto the device.

Fleet

The Eurowings fleet is operated by its partner airlines as well and is composed of: Airbus A340, A330, A320, A319, Boeing 737 and Dash 8-Q400. A330 can seat 310 passengers and is the largest plane of the fleet. A320s offer reliable technology and are designed to fly short and medium-haul routes. It is one of the most best-selling aircraft series of its size in the world. The A340 model operates long-haul routes and can carry up to 300 passengers.

Düsseldorf Airport

The latter can also enjoy a special meal from à la carte menu. Basic fare travellers can purchase a snack or drink from €6. All passengers flying long-haul, no matter which fare type they travel on, can design their meals. However, there is a surcharge for BASIC fare customers. SMART and BEST fare passengers are provided a warm and a cold meal as well as a drink. BIZclass travellers are treated to best-quality catering. It is 50% cheaper to add the meal online than at the counter.

Additional Services

When flying with Eurowings, passengers can enjoy in-flight entertainment offering an array of games, movies and songs using the Wings Entertainment App or in-seat screens on long-haul routes (Bangkok, Cancun, Fort Myers, Havanna, Las Vegas, Mauritius, Miami, Montego Bay, New York, New York-Newark, Punta Cana).
