    Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, is situated on the Chirchiq River at the foothills of the Tian Shan. It's the largest city in the country, serving as the industrial and cultural-scientific hub of Central Asia. Tashkent's history dates back to the 2nd century BC, and in the 8th century, the city was Islamized. In 1966, it underwent a major reconstruction after an earthquake.
