Singapore
Singapore, a city-state in Southeast Asia, is located on the island of Singapore and several smaller islands near the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. Founded by the British in 1819, it gained independence in 1965. Its name derives from the Sanskrit words "simha" (lion) and "pura" (city). Singapore is predominantly Chinese, and the city's symbol is the Merlion statue. With a tropical climate and temperatures ranging from 25 to 31 °C, the best time to visit is during the dry season from November to January.
