    Marrakech
Marrakesh is a city in western Morocco, at the foot of the High Atlas, at around 460 m above sea level. It has around 1 million inhabitants. It was founded in the 11th century as an Almoravid military camp, and in the 12th century the Almohads made it the capital of their empire. Today it draws visitors with its UNESCO-listed medina, the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square and the Majorelle Garden. The climate is dry, with hot summers and mild winters. The best time to visit the city is spring or autumn.
