Maldives
The Maldives is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, located about 500 km southwest of India. It comprises 1,190 islands, of which 202 are inhabited. The capital, Malé, is home to over a quarter of the country’s population. The equatorial climate brings average temperatures of 27 °C and annual rainfall of 2,130 mm. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from November to April. The Maldives is a Muslim republic and uses the Thaana script. Due to its low elevation, the archipelago faces the threat of flooding.
