Kaunas
Kaunas, the second-largest city in Lithuania, is situated in the central part of the country on the Neman River, where it meets the Vilija River. Home to about 319,000 people, it is a key industrial center. Renowned for its 14th-century historical castle that defended the city against the Teutonic Knights. During the interwar period, it served as the capital of Lithuania. Modern Kaunas is characterized by its Lithuanian identity (88% of the population). It's best to visit in spring or summer when the weather is pleasant.
