    Lyon
Lyon, the third largest city in France, lies in the central-eastern part of the country at the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône. It is the capital of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and has around 1.7 million inhabitants. Known for its historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it offers numerous attractions, including the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière and the old town of Vieux Lyon. The climate is temperate, with mild winters and warm summers, which makes spring and autumn the best times to visit.
