    Turin
Turin, the capital of Piedmont, is located in northwestern Italy at the confluence of the Dora Riparia and the Po River, at the foot of the Western Alps. Home to about 883,000 people, the entire metropolitan area has a population of 2.2 million. Renowned for its rich history, it dates back to Roman times when the military camp Augusta Taurinorum was established. Turin is also an important cultural and economic center, where the famous Shroud of Turin is kept. The city's patron saint, John the Baptist, is celebrated on June 24.
