Podgorica
Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, is situated at an elevation of 44 meters above sea level, nestled between the Ribnica and Morača rivers. Home to about 180,186 residents (as of 2023), it is the largest city in the country. Historically known as Doclea and Ribnica, it was part of the Ottoman Empire and later Yugoslavia. Don't miss the ruins of the Roman city of Doclea and the remnants of the Ottoman fortress. Podgorica's proximity to the Adriatic Sea and the Dinaric Alps makes it an ideal base for exploration. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit, with mild temperatures.
