Bishkek
Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, lies at the foot of the Kyrgyz Range in the Chuy Valley. The Great Chuy Canal crosses the city, and the Ala-Archa and Alamedin rivers flow through it. It is the country's main economic centre, with well-developed machine and textile industries. Bishkek is also a cultural and academic centre, with eight universities.
