Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus is the national airline of Ireland. It is based at Dublin Airport.
The first flight of the company took off from Baldonnel Airfield in Dublin to Bristol Whitchurch Airport on May 27, 1936.
The name “Aer Lingus” is derived from the Gaelic term “aer loingeas” which means “air fleet.”
The airline’s current fleet consists of 47 modern Airbus aircraft carrying over 10.6 million passengers each year.

Between 2013 and 2015, part of the Aer Lingus fleet was operating domestic routes within Great Britain – from London Heathrow to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Manchester, under a wet-lease agreement with Virgin Atlantic. However, Aer Lingus provides flights mostly to the European locations, including Turkey, as well as to North America and North Africa.
Aer Lingus is the longest running airline in Ireland and the country’s second-largest carrier after Ryanair. The company’s main objective is to connect Ireland with the whole world and offer customers the best services at competitive prices.
The Irish carrier also has a cargo division providing freight transport within the UK, continental Europe, and the USA. Thanks to interline agreements with other companies (Stobart Air, Jetblue Airways, United Airlines), it offers many connections to Great Britain, the United States, and Canada.

Baggage

Aer Lingus airline allows passengers to carry 1 cabin bag and 1 small personal item. The size and weight limits may vary depending on the booking class and the destination. There’re also specific dimensions and weight limits for the checked-in luggage, which again depends on the booking class and the route.

Travel Classes

Aer Lingus developed a range of fare types, different for European and transatlantic flights.
Saver, Plus, and Advantage are the options on short-haul routes, and there are no business class seats.
The cheapest class of tickets includes one piece of 10kg cabin baggage. With Plus and Advantage fares you get a 20kg checked baggage allowance as well as priority boarding, or advanced seat selection.
Passengers traveling to North America can choose from 5 booking classes – Saver, Smart, Flex, Business, and Business Flex.
Saver is the lowest fare available and includes one piece of 10kg cabin baggage, in-flight entertainment, and an onboard meal. An extra charge applies to the checked luggage (up to 23 kg) or seat selection.
Passengers with Smart and Flex tickets will get one 23kg checked bag for free. The Flex fare allows reservation changes.
2 pieces of 23kg checked baggage, priority boarding, comfortable lie-flat seats, and luxury dining, as well as the dedicated check-in desk and lounge, are only available to business class flyers.

Online Check-in

Travelers who don’t pay extra will be automatically allocated a seat at check-in.
Online check-in is available within 30 days of the scheduled departure on all routes in Europe. It closes 2 hours before the take-off from Dublin, Shannon, Cork, Belfast, London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Bristol, Kerry, Isle of Man, and Waterford; and 4 hours 30 minutes before any flight from other European airports.
Passengers can check-in online from 24 to 2 hours before their departure time on all routes to and from North America.

Fleet

The Aer Lingus fleet consists of 50 aircraft – 47 flying under its own brand name, and 3 planes operating as part of Air Contractor's fleet. Airbus A330-300, Airbus A330-200 and Boeing 757 fly long routes, while Airbus A321, Airbus A320, and Airbus A319 are used on short-haul flights.

Dublin Airport

An international Dublin Airport is located 10 km north of the city, nearby the town of Swords. In 2013, it handled 20.2 million passengers. Dublin Airport has a well-developed network of medium and long-distance routes, served by many carriers.
Dublin Airport is a base for Aer Lingus, regional airline Stobart Air, Ryanair, and ASL Airlines.
It is well connected and easily accessible via a network of highways, and by public transport.
Dublin Bus is the main provider of transport to and from the airport. It operates coaches to Dublin (routes 747 and 757) as well as to cities and towns throughout the region and country. Bus services link the airport not only with the city center but also with Connolly and Heuston rail stations. Besides, Dublin Bus runs local stopping services to Santry, Swords, Rathfarnham, Sutton, Malahide, Beaumont, Harold's Cross, Drumcondra, and Portmarnock.
There are also coach services from the airport to nearby towns, e.g., Donnybrook, Leopardstown, Sandyford, Dalkey, Greystones, Bray, Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire, and Sandymount as well as to more distant cities within the country.
Passengers can also travel from Connolly and Heuston stations which are operated by Irish Rail, Iarnród Éireann.

In-flight Meals

Aer Lingus offers a range of food choices, depending on the route booked and the fare type.
Economy class menu for flights within Europe was compiled in collaboration with Irish TV chef and restaurateur Clodagh McKenna. Using fresh ingredients from all over Ireland, she created special recipes, so that Aer Lingus passengers could enjoy tasty handmade food on board.
On transatlantic routes, travelers are served with delicious, balanced meals prepared with top quality local produce. They can also book a 3-course dinner from the exclusive preorder menu created by McKenna. The choice of main dishes includes salmon, roast chicken, and succulent steak. Passengers can select from red and white wine.
Business class flyers receive restaurant-quality meals, have access to the onboard bar and can enjoy a glass of champagne before the flight.

Additional Services

For flights within and outside Europe, different types of seats are available. Passengers can choose from standard, choice, exit, and premium seats.
On transatlantic routes in economy class, travelers have access to Wi-Fi and in-flight entertainment. Wi-Fi and mobile network are available on board of all A330 planes.
Thanks to the in-flight entertainment system passengers can browse through the selection of blockbuster movies, TV programs, music videos, and audio albums. Also, single and two-player games are available.
The onboard boutique offers luxury brand discounts.
According to EASA regulations, electronic devices can be switched on during take-off and landing. Aer Lingus allows electronic devices to be used at all stages of flights (except during refueling and low visibility landings) once they have been switched to flight mode.
