Air Baltic
Air Baltic is the national carrier of Latvia which operates as low-cost airlines. It has been active on the market since August 28, 1995, and was established as a joint venture of the Latvian state and Scandinavian Airlines – SAS. Air Baltic made its first passenger flight on October 1 of the same year with the Saab 340. The lines have been a joint stock company since 1999. Ten years later, SAS sold all of its shares. In 2011, the airlines were experiencing a grave financial crisis and avoided bankruptcy with the help of shareholders.
Air Baltic does not belong to any airline alliance, but it cooperates with several member airlines Star Alliance, SkyTeam, Oneworld. Air Baltic currently handles 60 direct flights from Riga.
