Air Berlin Airlines – baggage
As with most airlines, when entering on board an Air Berlin aircraft, you could bring both hand luggage and checked suitcases. Hand luggage was allowed up to a maximum of 8 kg. Interestingly, even passengers flying in business class could take one 8 kg suitcase, it was only in the FlyFlex subgroup that two carry-on suitcases were permitted. As for checked baggage, you could pack one 23 kg economy class suitcase, while in business class two 23 kg suitcases were permitted. Hand luggage was very restrictive, no items like nail files or shavers were allowed on board the low cost Air Berlin Airlines. On top of that, you could pack only 100-ml miniature versions of cosmetics or pour the necessary amount of the product.
Which booking classes could be distinguished at Air Berlin?
Booking classes are offered by virtually all carriers. People travel long distances, but also shorter hauls. When choosing the shorter route, we usually decide on economy class. Passengers of Air Berlin Airlines could use the option of economy or business class flight. Both compartments still had their subgroups, in which other amenities as well as the possibility to take different amounts of luggage were available. It is worth noting that when looking for interesting deals, it was possible to find low cost tickets for Air Berlin also in business class.
Does Air Berlin allow online check-in?
Air Berlin Airlines allowed its passengers to check in online. Check-in via the Internet is extremely easy and quick and comes with many different benefits. It allows for much later arrival at the airport than it would be necessary otherwise (about 40 minutes before departure). Usually this type of check-in opens 24 hours before departure and closes approximately two hours prior to take-off.
Airplanes in the Air Berlin fleet
All aircrafts belonging to Berlin’s second-largest airline were always typically passenger vehicles that could hold about 200 passengers. Each aircraft underwent mandatory tests and technical service. If necessary, the aircraft were repaired or if their condition did not allow further repair, they were excluded from the fleet. Air Berlin fleet consisted of over 100 aircrafts, including Airbus and Boeing.
Berlin Tegel Airport
The main seat of Air Berlin was the Berlin-Tegel Airport located 8 km from the city centre. Currently, the airport is fairly large and is situated northwest of the centre. The facility features a lot of different types of stores, so you can easily make purchases and even buy gifts there. There are many duty-free, clothing and perfume stores.

Did Air Berlin offer special deals? The carrier offered meals and drinks, even to economy class travellers. Passengers could also benefit from a selection of dishes adapted to their diet, for example vegan and vegetarian. On the other hand, business class travellers could opt for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and could also enjoy armchairs, which could easily be folded out to sleep. Interestingly, the business class also offered special rooms, the so-called lounges where travellers could relax.
Additional services
On mid-range routes in the on-board store you could buy snacks and drinks, brand perfumes, jewellery, toys for children and accessories. Magazines and newspaper were available on journeys in Germany. Passengers with reduced mobility could benefit from special assistance, but it had to be notified no later than 48 hours before the departure.
