Colombo
Colombo, the largest city in Sri Lanka, is a major economic and cultural hub. Known in medieval times as Kalantota, it served as the capital until 1982. Today, it is home to about 318,000 residents, including Sinhalese, Moors, and Tamils. In the city, you can explore remnants of Portuguese, Dutch, and British fortifications, the National Museum, and Buddhist temples such as Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara. The tropical climate makes December to March an ideal time to visit Colombo, when it is dry and warm.
