    Amman
Amman is the capital of Jordan, set on a plateau in the north of the country at around 850 m above sea level. It has more than 2 million inhabitants, including a large number of Palestinian refugees. The city has a rich history reaching back to antiquity, when it was known as Rabbath Ammon. The Citadel, the Roman Theatre and the national museum are all worth visiting. Amman has a dry, hot climate, and the best time to visit is spring and autumn, when temperatures are milder.
