Tampere
Tampere, known as the Manchester of Finland, lies on the isthmus between Lakes Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi in the Pirkanmaa region. It is an important industrial centre and inland port with more than 220 thousand inhabitants. The city grew intensively from the 18th century onwards, and its industrial past remains visible today. Tampere offers plenty of attractions, including a university founded in 1925. The climate is temperate, with cold winters and mild summers. It is best visited in summer, when temperatures are pleasant.
