    Belgrade
Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, lies in the north of the country where the Sava flows into the Danube. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe, with a history reaching back more than 7000 years. Known in antiquity as Singidunum, it was a strategic Roman stronghold. Today it draws visitors with a rich cultural heritage, such as the Kalemegdan fortress, and a buzzing nightlife. Average summer temperatures are around 25°C, which makes that period ideal for a visit.
