Baku
Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, is situated on the Absheron Peninsula by the Caspian Sea. It's the country's largest city, home to over 2 million people, and the world's lowest-lying capital. The city is renowned for its strong winds, reflected in its name derived from the Persian "Badkube." Baku offers a subtropical semi-desert climate with hot summers and mild winters. It's best to visit in early spring or autumn to avoid the scorching days. Baku is also home to the peninsula's largest lake, Böyükşor.
